Cookie policy
The purpose of this Cookie Policy (hereinafter also referred to as the “Policy”) is to describe how the website currently available at the address “www.stauffer.org” is managed with reference to the use of cookies or markers (hereinafter also referred to as “Cookies”).
This website acquires, in the course of normal operation, some personal data whose transmission is implicit in the use of Internet communication protocols. This information is not collected to be associated with identified interested parties, but by its very nature could, through processing and association with data held by third parties, allow users to be identified. This category of data includes IP addresses or the domain names of the computers used by users who connect to the site, the URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) addresses of the resources requested, the time of the request, the method used to submit the request to the server, the size of the file obtained in response, the numerical code indicating the status of the response given by the server (successful, error, etc.) and other parameters relating to the user’s operating system and computer environment.
These data, which are necessary for the use of web services, are also processed in order to
– obtain statistical information on the use of the services (most visited pages, number of visitors per time slot or per day, geographical areas of origin, etc.)
– check the correct functioning of the services offered
The data could be used to ascertain responsibility in case of hypothetical computer crimes against the site: except for this possibility, the data on web contacts persist for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which they are collected and subsequently processed.
What they are and for what purposes they are collected
A “cookie” is a small text file created by some websites to store information on your computer when you access the site. Cookies are sent by a web server to the user’s browser and stored on the user’s computer; they are then sent back to the website on subsequent visits.
Types of cookies used
a) Technical and functionality cookies
These are the cookies necessary to allow navigation on the Foundation’s institutional websites and to use various functions and services requested by users.
The use of these cookies allows the Foundation, for example, to increase the security of the service requested by the user by blocking access following repeated failed logins from a restricted area, or to remember the preference, for example the language, regarding the web pages visited.
b) Analytics cookies
The portal makes use of first-party analytical cookies used only by the portal operator, for example to estimate the number of unique visitors, and for purely monitoring purposes, such as identifying the main keywords for search engines that lead to an institutional web page or to identify problems in navigating the website.
These data do not allow the user to be personally identified because they are automatically “anonymised” before being processed by the software for the statistical analysis of web accesses.
c) Third-party analytics cookies
In certain cases, the Google Analytics service is also used, which uses cookies to carry out statistical analyses to monitor visitors. The data is collected by Google Analytics in an anonymous form (without the last three digits of the IP address) and is not cross-referenced with other information held by Google, so these cookies are assimilated to technical cookies and do not require the users’ prior consent.
d) Third-party cookies
In certain cases “third-party” cookies may be used, managed directly by third parties and not processed by the Foundation. For example, third-party cookies may be transmitted when interacting with sharing plugins or with social media authentication, when viewing videos that reside on a YouTube channel. Some of these features are described in more detail below.
Use of social network plug-ins
The portal is integrated with a number of social network plug-ins, in particular Facebook, Twitter, Google and Instagram, to allow users to publicly share portal content that they find interesting. When the user visits a page on the website, the plug-ins establish a direct connection between the user’s browser and the social networks. Through this connection, the social networks acquire certain information about the user, such as IP address, date and time of the visit, browser used, etc. In addition, if the user is connected (and therefore authenticated) on one of these social networks, the information collected can be linked to the user’s social profile. However, Fondazione Centro di Musicologia Walter Stauffer does not collect any of the information that is transmitted to the social network via the plug-in.
Google Analytics
This is a web traffic analysis service provided by Google, used to monitor and improve the performance of the host site (performance cookie). Google Analytics may anonymously collect and analyse information on usage behaviour. This information is collected by Google Analytics, which processes it in order to compile reports on the websites themselves. This website, by anonymizing your IP address, does not use (and does not allow third parties to use) Google’s analytics tool to track or collect personally identifiable information. Google does not associate the IP address with any other data held by Google or attempt to link an IP address with a user’s identity. Google may also disclose this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf.

The user can selectively disable the function of Google Analytics by installing the opt-out component provided by Google on his browser. To disable the Google Analytics function, please refer to the link below:
