Gordan Nikolic
Gordan Nikolić is one of the most precious violinists of his generation.
He was born in Brus in 1968 and started playing the violin at the age of seven.
After a very fruitful musical education in Ćuprija, at the School for Musical Talents in the classes of Djerdj Zazrović and Ljubivoje Nikolić, he went to study in Basel, where he met the great French violinist Jean Jacques Kantorow, in whose class he graduated as a teacher and soloist in 1987 and 1989. During that period, he attended intensive interpretation courses by V. Levin, G. Kurtag, H.V. Henze, V. Lutoslavski, etc.
Many years of working as a concertmaster in the Orchester d’Auvergne, the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, the European Chamber Orchestra, and finally 20 years in the London Symphony Orchestra provide a fruitful platform of experience on which he bases his work as an artistic director from the position of concertmaster, being a guest in many orchestras throughout Europe. He collaborated with, among others, the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, the Madrid Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Spain, the LSO, the Antwerp Royal Orchestra, the Castilian-Leon Orchestra, the Catalan Youth Orchestra, the Spanish Youth Orchestra, Aurora, and he was the long-term music director of the Belgrade String Orchestra St. Djordja and the first guest conductor of the Manchester Camerata. Since 2004, he has been the artistic director of the Dutch Chamber Orchestra and since 2005, the musical director of BandArt.
As a soloist he played under Sir Colin Davis, Bernard Haitink, Daniel Harding, Myung Whung Chung, Mark Albrecht, Jakov Kraitzberg, Lawrence Foster, etc.
He is a prize winner at international competitions, honored with nominations from critics of Gramophone magazine, BBC music magazine, German critics’ award, named Prince Consort Professor at Royal College in London.
Since 2005 he has been teaching at the Rotterdam Conservatory and since 2017 he is a professor at the HfM in Saarbrücken.
