Metamorfosi d’archi | April 24, Museo del Violino
A new appointment in the Concerti della Stauffer series at the Museo del Violino: Metamorfosi d’archi, scheduled for Friday 24 April at 8:30 pm in the Giovanni Arvedi Auditorium. The evening will feature the Stauffer String Ensemble, conducted by Kolja Blacher, with Joël Geniet as cello soloist.
At the heart of the Stauffer Concerts lies a clear vision: concert performance as an essential part of the educational journey, where the work developed in the classroom finds concrete expression and is shared with an audience. In this perspective, orchestral practice represents a privileged environment for the growth of young musicians, fostering the development of mutual listening.
The renowned violinist and conductor Kolja Blacher returns to the podium of the Stauffer String Ensemble for the second time, leading a programme that spans three centuries and offers three distinct perspectives on writing for strings. The evening opens with Prayers by Noam Sheriff, a meditative and rarefied work rooted in Jewish tradition, transformed into a wordless prayer. This is followed by the Cello Concerto in A major by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, featuring Joël Geniet — student of Frans Helmerson at the Stauffer Academy — as soloist: a vibrant composition marked by contrasts and sudden expressive openings, in which the dialogue between cello and orchestra unfolds with strong theatrical tension. The concert concludes with Metamorphosen by Richard Strauss, for twenty-three solo strings: a vast and ever-evolving sonic fresco in which the music becomes lament and memory, reflecting on the twilight of Germany’s historical and cultural landscape in 1945.
The series is held under the patronage of the Province of Cremona and the Municipality of Cremona.
