Omaggio a Cremona | May 8, Museo del Violino
Salvatore Accardo and Bruno Giuranna return, together with their students, to bring to life a new Omaggio a Cremona, renewing an event that embodies the educational vision of the Stauffer Academy: a moment of deep sharing between professors and young musicians, marked by a vibrant and dynamic continuity between past and future. On May 8, at the Auditorium Arvedi of the Museo del Violino, professors and students will perform a programme that brings together chamber music masterpieces by Arnold Schönberg and Robert Schumann, in a compelling dialogue between generations, eras and musical languages.
For nearly forty years, Omaggio a Cremona has represented an opportunity for encounter and dialogue between different generations of musicians, in which the historic Stauffer Masters share the stage with their students before the Cremonese audience, maintaining a deep bond between the Academy and the city. Over the years, Omaggio a Cremona has taken place in some of the most representative venues of the city’s cultural life — from Palazzo Cittanova to Teatro Ponchielli, from the Church of San Marcellino to Teatro Filodrammatici — following and reflecting the evolution of the Academy in its relationship with the local community. Today, it is part of the broader framework of I Concerti della Stauffer, as one of its key moments, where the historical dimension of the Academy and the presence of its founding Professors find a particularly meaningful synthesis.
The evening’s programme brings together two contrasting yet complementary expressive worlds. Verklärte Nacht by Arnold Schönberg, in its version for string sextet, will be performed by Salvatore Accardo together with five Stauffer students: a deeply moving story of love and trust that unfolds in the luminous, almost ecstatic atmosphere of a starry night, where the dialogue between the strings builds emotional tension before opening into a sense of reconciliation. In contrast with Schönberg’s introspective mood, Robert Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E-flat major Op. 47, performed by Bruno Giuranna with Stauffer students and pianist Clara Dutto, conveys the urgency and vitality of Romantic writing, in a dynamic interplay between piano and strings that alternates momentum, restlessness and the most intimate lyricism.
The series is held under the patronage of the Province of Cremona and the Municipality of Cremona. Admission is free, subject to reservation via Eventbrite.
