Dorin Marc studied in his native Romania at the Conservatory of Bucharest with Prof. Ion Cheptea. In addition to his first job at the Philharmonic “Transylvanian” of Cluj, he was soloist contrabass in the Orchestra Internazionale of Italy.

From 1992 to 2003 he was soloist contrabass of the Philharmonic of Munich, and since 1998 he teaches at the Conservatory of Nuremberg.

Both in Romania and abroad, Dorin Marc has received numerous awards including in 1979 the Special Jury Prize and in 1985 the second prize at the ARD Competition in Munich, in 1979 the third prize and in 1981 the first prize at the Markneukirchen International Contrabass Competition, in 1983 the silver medal and the prize “P. Liebstoeckl “in the Competition of Music in Geneva and in 1991 the first prize at the International Society of Contrabassists in Mittenwald.

Dorin Marc has performed throughout Europe and has held numerous master class.

His students are winners of international competitions of contrabass such as the ARD Competition in Munich, the International Instrumental Competition of Markneukirchen, the J. M. Sperger Competition and the International Competition in Brno (Czech Republic). Many students are soloists contrabass in important orchestras.
